Here is something that will make every Filipino productive during the COVID-19 quarantine. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) says it is offering free online courses so that Filipinos will learn new skills during the quarantine.
Sec. Isidro Lapeña, the Director General of TESDA, said on Friday via CNN Philippines, that the agency is offering 68 short online courses at no cost to help people learn new crafts or advance their technical skills.
"Para may magawa ang ating mga kababayan, we came up with the TESDA Online Program," said Lapeña, adding that the agency improved the program so that every Filipino can avail of the offered courses.
With regard to the offered courses under the TESDA Online Program, the list includes cookery, bread and pastry production, massage therapy, housekeeping, beauty care service, hot and cold meals preparation, fruit growing and vegetable gardening, food and beverage service, diesel engine tune-up, battery servicing, computer system servicing, and more.
The Director General added that the short courses come with quizzes and learning videos.
Those who will complete the courses will be given a certificate of completion.
To get a national certification, however, learners should need to go to technical schools near them to take assessment tests.
"Once na mag-normalize ang sitwasyon, kailangan mo magtake ng assessment kasi kailangan ng physical presence para ma-assess nila yung paggamit mo ng equipment at kung ang skills ay kwalipikado na," Lapeña said.
What is good to note is that there is no age requirement for these free online courses from TESDA. However, it is a must that learners should be computer-literate.
To date, he said that there are around 152,000 enrollees in the said program under e-TESDA.
To enroll, students should go to e-tesda.gov.ph.
It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte recently announced that the enhanced community quarantine in a few parts of Luzon will be extended until May 15. These places include Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila regions.
