A man from Bicol, Philippines, has recently gone viral on Facebook because he holds not one, but five professional licenses.
Netizens applauded Apollo Pablo Zantua, a 50-year-old professional who shared his experience renewing his five licenses through the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Zantua holds licenses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, professional teaching, and master plumbing.
According to ABS-CBN News, Zantua first earned a degree in electrical engineering from Bicol University. He later studied in Japan as a scholar with a degree in engineering, this time specializing in production mechanical engineering.
When he returned to the Philippines to take the mechanical engineering board exam, he was initially denied because he did not graduate in the country. He then requested recognition from the Commission on Higher Education, citing the lack of reciprocity between the Philippines and Japan.
He was then honored as a mechanical and industrial engineer, as well as a teacher.
He decided to postpone taking the board exam and instead pursued another course, civil engineering, which he completed in two years because his previous units were credited.
He decided to apply for board exams in 2017, and within six months, he had licenses for all of his completed degrees.
He is currently teaching electrical, civil, mechanical, and plumbing at Taguig University. He uses all of his licenses, according to the report.
It is worth noting that he was not an honor student when he was in school, contrary to popular opinion.
"Baka valedictorian ito noon, baka puro honor ito noon. I am not an honor student," Zantua told ABS CBN News.
He went on to say that he always tells his students that college requires determination and hard work, not just intelligence. He believes that if someone wants to achieve something in life, they must make a way for it.
