A California-based Filipino family had to make the heartbreaking decision to donate their child’s organs to other people who need them.

Recipients of Leopauld Sanchez’ organs
A total of three other people received organs recovered from the body of Leopauld Sanchez.
His two kidneys were transplanted to an adult from San Francisco. His heart and liver, on the other hand, went to a six-month-old and three-month-old in San Diego, respectively.
The family stated their hope to meet the three recipients in the future. According to them, the fact that a part of Leopauld will continue to live on helps them in going through the grieving process.
Sanchez family’s tough decision
The family’s decision to donate the organs came after doctors from Valley Children’s Hospital declared Leopauld Sanchez brain dead on January 15, exactly two months after the incident.
According to the family, they kept asking for miracles. This was despite doctors saying that he had a little chance of recovering.
As a way to say goodbye, his Navyman father gave his last salute in the hospital. Nurses also did an honor walk to pay respects before taking his body to the operating room.
Tragic car crash involving Pinoy family in California
The family got into a horrific car crash on November 15 in the past year after colliding with another driver in King's County, California.
The family suffered serious injuries because of the accident. But it was the 16-month-old Leopauld who was hit the worst.
His mother, Sharee, and two siblings had to be hospitalized because of the injuries they sustained from the crash. Their extended family and friends immediately banded together and raised funds to help in the expenses needed by the four family members.
The other injured family members are currently recovering. The transplant operations for Leopauld’s organs, meanwhile, have already been done.
